East German Porcelain Bowl — Streublumen Scattered Flowers, Pre-1990 GDR
A Piece of Vanished History
This elegant porcelain bowl carries a story beyond its beauty — marked "Made in German Democratic Republic" on the base, it was produced in East Germany before reunification in 1990. That mark alone makes it a genuine historical artifact, as the GDR ceased to exist over three decades ago. Pieces bearing this mark are increasingly collectible as tangible remnants of a country that no longer exists.
The decoration follows the beloved Streublumen tradition — meaning "scattered flowers" in German — a style rooted in 18th-century Meissen porcelain artistry. Individual blooms are delicately painted across the exterior: a pink rose, an orange tulip, a sprig of blue bellflowers, dark berries, and a pink rosebud, each floating freely on the luminous white ground. The interior rim echoes the motif with its own scattering of small floral sprigs. The rim is finished with a fine gold band.
